Shania Twain apologizes after saying she would have voted for Trump

Canadian singer Shania Twain is apologizing after telling a British newspaper that, if she were American, she would have voted for U.S. President Donald Trump.

Twain told The Guardian that even though Trump was “offensive” he “seemed honest.”

“Do you want straight or polite? Not that you shouldn’t be able to have both. If I were voting, I just don’t want bullshit,” she added.

In a series of tweets Sunday, Twain said she was sorry to “anybody offended” and that the interviewer’s question had caught her “off guard.”

“I am passionately against discrimination of any kind and hope it’s clear from the choices I have made, and the people I stand with, that I do not hold any common moral beliefs with the current President,” Twain wrote.

“I was trying to explain, in response to a question about the election, that my limited understanding was that the President talked to a portion of America like an accessible person they could relate to, as he was NOT a politician,” Twain went on.

“My answer was awkward, but certainly should not be taken as representative of my values nor does it mean I endorse him,” Twain added. “I make music to bring people together. My path will always be one of inclusivity, as my history shows.” SOURCE

16 Former WWE Stars Fans Didn’t Know Are Performing In Smaller Arenas

The wrestling industry is booming in 2018 and it’s hard to keep track of where all the wrestlers perform. This industry is amazing if you think about it, it’s just as big, if not bigger than some of the top sports around the world. There are promotions across every continent except Antarctica, but we’re pretty sure our overlord, Vince McMahon, has set up some kind of secret wrestling promotion there.

He’s probably got lizard people fighting Bigfoot and the little gray men in some underground facility. We joke, but seriously, if McMahon could hire Big Foot, lizard people, and little grey men, we guarantee he would. With the countless promotions out there, these promotions need wrestlers and sometimes the best wrestlers they hire come from the WWE.

It’s not a secret that when a wrestler gets into the WWE, his or her stock as rises in the industry. That wrestler could be there for just a year, but it’s still a huge impact on their careers. When wrestlers leave the WWE Universe, it’s not the end of all days; they can easily find work elsewhere. This list comprises of wrestlers spanning several decades and some of them were champs while others weren’t. Enjoy. READ MORE

Minnesota prosecutor won't file charges in Prince's death

No criminal charges will be filed in Prince's death, and evidence shows that the musician thought he was taking a common painkiller instead of a counterfeit pill containing the fentanyl that killed him, a Minnesota prosecutor said Thursday.

Carver County attorney Mark Metz said investigators found no evidence of "any sinister motive" but that some associates had sought to protect Prince's privacy. The lack of criminal charges does not mean that associates did not enable the singer's habits, Metz said, but there's no evidence any of them knew about the fentanyl.

Metz's announcement came just hours after documents revealed that a doctor who was accused of illegally prescribing an opioid for Prince agreed to pay $30,000 US to settle a civil violation of a federal drug law. Dr. Michael Todd Schulenberg allegedly wrote a prescription for oxycodone in the name of Prince's bodyguard, intending for the potent painkiller to go Prince. That prescription was not linked to Prince's death.
'We do not have evidence that a specific person provided fentanyl to Prince,' Carver County Attorney Mark Metz, right, announced at a news conference on Thursday. (Jim Mone/Associated Press)

Prince was 57 when he was found alone and unresponsive in an elevator at his Paisley Park estate on April 21, 2016. His death sparked an international outpouring of grief and prompted a joint investigation by Carver County and U.S. federal authorities.

An autopsy found he died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid far more powerful than heroin. State and federal authorities have been investigating the source of the fentanyl for nearly two years. Metz's announcement effectively closed the case.

After the announcement, the U.S. Attorney's Office said that federal prosecutors had no credible evidence that would lead to federal criminal charges. A law enforcement official close to the investigation told The Associated Press that the federal investigation is now inactive unless new information emerges. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the federal case remains open.

Federal prosecutors and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration alleged Schulenberg, a family physician who saw Prince at least twice before he died, violated the Controlled Substances Act when he wrote a prescription in the name of someone else on April 14, 2016.

The settlement, dated Monday, does not name Prince or make any references to the Prince investigation. However, search warrants say Schulenberg told authorities he prescribed oxycodone to Prince on April 14 and put it under the name of Prince's bodyguard and close friend, Kirk Johnson, "for Prince's privacy."

Schulenberg's attorney, Amy Conners, has disputed that and did so again Thursday, saying that Schulenberg settled the case to avoid the expense and uncertain outcome of litigation.

Nubia’s Red Magic smartphone is designed for gaming, down to the glowing LEDs on the back

The Red Magic is the new phone from Nubia (a ZTE sub-brand in China), and it’s built for gaming. But you probably didn’t need me to tell you that. The Red Magic is practically screaming “extreme gamer,” with its sharp, hexagonal cutouts for the camera and fingerprint sensor, aggressively red vents and details, and the glowing LED strip on the back, via Liliputing.

Oddly, the specs on the Red Magic aren’t actually quite in line with what you’d expect from a mobile gaming powerhouse. The 6-inch, 2160 x 1080 pixel display is up there, but it’s not a 120Hz panel like Razer offers, and it uses last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor instead of the newer Snapdragon 845.
The rest of the phone is pretty standard for a mid- to high-end Android phone, too: up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB storage on the high-end model (along with a cheaper 6GB RAM and 64GB of storage model). Camera-wise, there’s a 24-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing lens. And rounding things out on the hardware side of things is an impressively large 3,800mAh battery, which should help with power-hungry games. Nubia also claims that it’ll be using its “GameBoost” software to offer better performance. (This is probably where the gaming focus comes in.)

Between last year’s Razer Phone, the Xiaomi-backed Black Shark, and now the Nubia Red Magic, it’s safe to say that gaming phones are having a moment. And while a smartphone dedicated to gaming might not make a ton of sense to American users — after all, how much processing power do you need to play Candy Crush or Clash of Clans? — the Nubia Red Magic is meant more for markets like China. The Chinese market is where mobile MOBAs are extremely popular, and having a phone that focuses on gaming makes a lot of sense in that context. And even outside of China, the successful mobile ports of games like PUBG and Fortnite is starting to change the conversation about what phone games can accomplish.

Preorders open in China on April 25th, starting at 2,499 yuan (roughly $397) for the base mode, and 2,999 yuan (around $477) for the high-end version. Nubia is also planning an Indiegogo campaign for the 26th, which will offer the phone starting at an early bird price of $399.

Saudi Arabia Launches First New Cinema, Public Showings Start Friday

Saudi Arabia launched its first commercial movie theatre on Wednesday, ending a nearly 40-year ban on cinemas under a push by the crown prince to modernize the deeply conservative Muslim kingdom.

A red carpet invitation-only gala event attracted senior government officials, foreign dignitaries and select industry figures to watch Marvel's superhero movie "Black Panther" on a 45-foot screen at a converted symphony concert hall in Riyadh.

Tickets will go on sale on Thursday for the first public viewings on Friday, according to Adam Aron, chief executive of operator AMC Entertainment Holdings

"Saudis now are going to be able to go to a beautiful theatre and watch movies the way they're supposed to be watched: on a big screen," he told Reuters ahead of the screening.

Confetti rained down through the multi-storey atrium as he and the Saudi information minister announced the official launch of the theatre and proceeded into the 450-seat movie hall.

The opening marks another milestone for reforms spearheaded by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to open the country culturally and diversify the economy. Saudi Arabia is the world's top oil exporter.

The prince, 32, has already eased restrictions in the last two years including on public concerts, women driving and gender mixing.

The kingdom banned cinemas in the early 1980s under pressure from Islamists as Saudi society embraced a severe form of Islam.

Yet Saudis have been avid consumers of Western media and culture. Despite the cinema ban, Hollywood films and television series are widely watched at home and private film screenings have been largely tolerated for years.

Pakistan Rejects PM Modi's Remarks On Surgical Strikes, Calls It "False And Baseless"

Pakistan today rejected as "false and baseless" Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks on the 'surgical strikes' across the Line of Control in 2016 , saying "repeating a lie doesn't turn it into the truth."

Speaking at the 'Bharat Ki Baat, Sabke Saath' programme in London yesterday, PM Modi had said India waited to inform Pakistan about the operation before disclosing it to the media and the people.

"I said before India gets to know, we should call Pakistan and tell them. We were calling them since 11 AM but they were scared to come on phone, at 12 we spoke to them and then told the Indian media," PM Modi had said.

Reacting to Prime Minister Modi's remarks, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Mohammad Faisal said today India's claims about the "surgical strike were false and baseless".
"Repeating a lie doesn't turn it into the truth," the spokesperson was quoted as saying by Dawn.

The spokesperson said that the threatening statements emanating from the top Indian leadership against Pakistan should be a matter of concern for the international community.

In response to PM Modi's comments on Pakistan exporting terrorism, Mr Faisal claimed that it was the other way around and accused India of backing terrorists in Pakistan.

"Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav is proof of Indian state-sponsored terrorism," he alleged.

Mr Jadhav, 47, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of espionage and terrorism.

India moved the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in May last year against the verdict. The ICJ halted his execution on India's appeal pending the final verdict by it.

Pakistan claims its security forces arrested Mr Jadhav from restive Balochistan province on March 3, 2016 after he reportedly entered from Iran.

However, India maintains that Mr Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran where he had business interests after retiring from the Navy. Mr Jadhav's sentencing had evoked a sharp reaction in India.

Preterm baby born in 24th week undergoes surgery in Mumbai

A preterm baby born in the 24th week, weighing 620 grams, underwent a surgery for suffering from multiple holes in the stomach. The surgery was conducted in the last week of February. The baby girl is now recovering in the PICU ward of Jaslok Hospital and will be discharged by next week.

An average baby is born in 36 weeks, whereas Antara (name changed) was born on February 10, in the 24th week and weighed around 700 grams. According to the doctor treating her, her complications were far more than premature babies.

Her health issues included difficulty in breathing and she was put on a ventilator for a few days. Twenty days after her birth, it was detected that she had stomach perforation — multiples holes in her stomach. She gradually lost weight from 730 grams and was operated when she was 620 grams.

Dr Fazal Nabi, consultant pediatrician and intensive at Jaslok Hospital, said, "This is an unusual case. The multiple holes in the stomach (stomach perforation) was unexpected and suddenly detected after 20 days of her birth. We had to immediately do an operation after monitoring her medical condition. In such cases, 40 per cent of the babies die due to septic shock. After the surgery, she has now gained 1,500 gm of weight. Since she is a preterm baby born in the 24th week, she was fed through gastrostomy feeds. We have now managed her fluctuating oxygen saturation, bleeding in brain and lungs."

Kolkata Knight Riders conquer Rajasthan Royals fortress : IPL 2018

Rajasthan Royals needed more than just Sanju Samson to stand up and be counted to get a positive result against the Dinesh Karthik-led Kolkata Knight Riders, who have the most successful spinners in the IPL so far.

On Wednesday, here at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Samson failed to produce a magical knock like the one against Royal Challengers Bangalore last week. His contribution on the day was just seven, and that dented the team’s chances of putting up a big total. Royals, however, managed 160/8 in 20 overs. But that was not enough as Knight Riders, despite losing two early wickets, clinched the tie by seven wickets in 18.5 overs.

Samson looked to play the short-arm pull but didn't make clean contact. The ball went towards deep square leg where Kuldeep Yadav took an easy catch off Shivam Mani. After being put in to bat by Kolkata Knight Riders, Royals were kept under tight leash by the opponent bowlers, but openers Rahane and D’Arcy Short broke the shackles and hit some entertaining blows.

Kolkata skipper employed spinners from the beginning to check the flow of runs but Sunil Narine tuned out to be most expensive, giving 18 runs in one over. Skipper Rahane said earlier that even he wanted to bowl first but since the wicket looked good, he didn’t mind batting first. And he did that with flair, taking Narine to the cleaners.

Karthik decided to keep the hosts silent in the Powerplay as he brought Narine into the attack in the third over. When he was going great guns, the Royals skipper was run out. He scored 37 off 19 balls, with five fours and a six.

Rahane tried to flick one on the leg side off the bowling of Rana but he missed and Karthik moved swiftly to his left, picked the ball up and flicked it back. It was a stunning work by Karthik. Short justified his captain’s faith with his superb innings crafted with five fours and a six during his 43-ball innings of 44.

Private video Jeevitha Rajasekhar leaks Sri Reddy's

Following Sri Reddy's strip protest against casting couch in the Tollywood industry, social activist Sandhya Naidu a few days ago made some shocking allegations against Telugu actress Jeevitha and her husband Rajasekhar during a television debate. She claimed that Jeevitha used to satisfy her husband's fantasies by providing him with young girls for sexual favors by luring them with money and acting offers.

Jeevitha is now planning to take legal action against Sandhya and the channel for maligning her image on television. She has now filed a defamation suit against the social activist for making serious allegations against her. She also added that she was being targeted after it was announced that she would be a member of the CASH (Committee Against Sexual Harassment) in Tollywood.
In a recent press meet, Jeevitha also spoke about Sri Reddy and showed a private video where the latter is heard saying that she will be in sexy mood 24x7. After showing the video, Jeevitha said that it would be difficult for people to accept the fact that Sri Reddy was sexually exploited in the industry.

Sri Reddy's protest against casting couch in Tollywood has created quite a stir in the industry. She continued to fight against it even after she was ignored and left alone. In the past couple of weeks, she has alleged Noted scriptwriter Kona Venkat, executive producer Vakada Appa Rao, producer Suresh Babu's son Abhiram Daggubati and others of sexually exploiting young actresses.

She recently abused Pawan Kalyan and showed him her middle finger after the power star's advised actresses to stop protesting in the streets and instead file a police complaint.

Around 15 women started a campaign called Sthree Shakthi Movement on Sunday, April 15, to share their stories of sexual exploitation in Tollywood while raising demands to create a better environment to work for the women in the film industry.

Amit Shah appoints MP Rakesh Singh as new Madhya Pradesh BJP chief

In a surprise move seven months before the assembly elections, BJP national president Amit Shah on Wednesday appointed MP from Jabalpur Rakesh Singh -- an unlikely candidate and little known face -- as state BJP president and successor of Nandkumar Singh Chouhan. When stalwarts like Narendra Singh Tomar, Kailash Vijayvargiya and several cabinet ministers including Narottam Mishra were in the race, appointment of Rakesh Singh is not just a surprise but came as a shocker for many.

A letter from BJP national general secretary Arun Singh reached state BJP organisational general secretary Suhas Bhagat on Wednesday morning which said, "BJP national president Amit Shah has appointed MP Rakesh Singh as president of Madhya Pradesh state unit." The letter also said that outgoing state BJP chief Nandkumar Singh Chouhan has been elevated as a member of the party’s national working committee.
Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Nandkumar Singh Chouhan and Rakesh Singh reached together for the official announcement at the state BJP headquarters after 3 pm. The new state chief was welcomed with garlands, beating of drums and bursting crackers.

Outgoing state BJP president Nandkumar Singh Chouhan aka Nandu Bhaiyya said, "Today is the auspicious Akshay Tritiya and destiny has chosen Rakesh Singh to take charge of our party in Madhya Pradesh. The BJP is a party built on an ideology by our patriarchs like Kushabhau Thakre. The organisation gave me the opportunity to work and I honestly tried to do my best. Now I am sure that three times MP Rakesh Singh will take the party forward and we will undoubtedly achieve our target of `ab ki baar 200 paar’ and make government for the fourth time in the state and in 2019 Narendra Modi will be Prime Minister for a second term.

Meghna Gulzar's Espionage Drama Starring Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal Looks Intriguing

The trailer of Meghna Gulzar's next, Raazi, dropped online earlier today.

The film, a Dharma-Junglee co-production starring Alia Bhatt and Vickey Kaushal (Raman Raghav, Masaan), is an adaptation of Harinder S Sikka's Calling Sehmat, a book inspired by the almost-unbelievable real-life story of a Kashmiri woman who married a Pakistani army officer to dish out intel back to Indian forces.

Raazi's trailer is atmospheric, eerie, and unsettlingly tense. Meghna, who last directed the terrific Talvar, has a directorial style that relies on intrigue and the dramatic premise of Raazi gives her enough meat to play around with.

The trailer opens with a sweeping shot of the INS Viraat and a throbbing background score which establishes the film's war-movie tonality. We are introduced to Alia Bhatt's character, Sehmat, a seemingly unassuming young woman who's about to be thrown into a perilous journey, something she doesn't appear to be prepared for but looks determined to do.

What if she actually falls in love? What if she defects? What if she's caught? How she navigates the ostensibly terrifying road ahead form's the crux of the film, which features a great ensemble comprising Rajit Kapoor, Shishir Sharma, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Bhatt's real-life mother, actress Soni Razdan.

Government Promises Adequate Circulation As RBI Blames Logistical Reasons For Dry ATMs Across Country

The government and the Reserve Bank of India said on Tuesday they will ensure there is an adequate amount of cash in circulation, following reports that banks' automated teller machines (ATMs) had run out of notes in different parts of the country.

The RBI said it had ramped up printing of notes despite having sufficient cash in its vaults and currency chests.

"As a matter of abundant precaution, RBI is also taking steps to move currency to areas which are witnessing unusually large cash withdrawals," the central bank said in a statement late on Tuesday.

Cash withdrawals in India go up during the crop harvest season, which is usually during March to April, and then during the festival season in October. But there has been an unusual rise in currency demand in the last three months.

That is a source of worry for policymakers because a sustained heavy currency withdrawal suggests people may be hoarding cash again.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had ordered a shock ban on high-value currency notes in late 2016, in a move aimed at flushing out hoarded cash and curbing the funding of terrorism.

"The total stock of currency has come down but still we have notes worth more than two trillion rupees ($30 billion) in stock which is more than sufficient," said the government's economic affairs secretary Subhash Chandra Garg.

Currency withdrawal by individuals during January-March 2018 was at 1.4 trillion rupees, sharply higher than 1.1 trillion rupees in the same quarter of 2016, according to Reserve Bank of India data. The March 2017 quarter data is not comparable as the RBI was in the process of re-injecting currency notes after the so-called demonetisation in November 2016.

14-year-old raped by neighbour in Delhi, family learns of it from internet

Three men were arrested on charges of rape in Delhi’s Rohini suburb when the mother of the teenage victim filed a police complaint after a neighbour alerted her about videos circulating of the incident.

Police said the incident took place two weeks ago in Mangolpur Kalan locality when the main accused, a 32-year-old labourer who is also the girl’s neighbour, allegedly lured her to his home where two of his friends were waiting. He raped the 14-year-old while his friends recorded the act on their mobile phones.

The accused then blackmailed her into silence, threatening they would upload the videos on the internet and circulate them on WhatsApp.

The case came to light after the leaked videos were seen by a neighbour who told the girl’s mother. When the mother asked the girl, she broke down and told her everything. The family then filed a complaint and the girl was medically examined.

The incident in the national capital comes amid days of outrage over the gang-rape and murder of an 8-year-old in Jammu’s Kathua and the rape of a teenager allegedly by a BJP lawmaker in Uttar Pradesh. Several cities across the country have seen rallies and protests by citizens questioning inaction by authorities in these cases.

He said there was a “deliberate attempt” on his life and claimed that a truck tried to ram into his car but hit a vehicle which was part of his convoy. One of his support staff suffered a fractured shoulder, he said.

Hegde said the truck driver — identified by him as Nasir — was caught by locals and did not seem to be in an inebriated condition. He tweeted a video of the incident, adding that it showed it was “quite evident” that he was “purposefully” targeted.

“A deliberate attempt on my life seems to have been executed just now. A truck on NH, near Halageri in Ranebennur taluk of Haveri district has hit my escort vehicle which tried to hit my vehicle in the first instance. Since our vehicle was in top speed we escaped the hit,” Hegde said, “However our support staff in the escort vehicle has suffered severe injuries in the form of shoulder fracture.”

Karnataka Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy said he will ask the state police to probe the incident.

Drinking coffee, tea may cut risk of heart flutter, stroke

Drinking coffee and tea can reduce abnormal heart rhythms, which is known to cause strokes, a study has found.

Many clinicians advise patients with atrial or ventricular arrhythmias to avoid caffeinated beverages.

Arrhythmias, or abnormal heart rhythms, cause the heart to beat too fast, slow or unevenly. While some arrhythmias may be harmless or even go unnoticed in patients, others can increase risk for sudden cardiac arrest.

Atrial fibrillation (AFib), the most common heart rhythm disorder, causes the heart to beat rapidly and skip beats, and if left untreated, can cause strokes.

A single cup of coffee contains about 95 mg of caffeine and acts as a stimulant to the central nervous system. Once in the body, caffeine blocks the effects of adenosine, a chemical that can facilitate AFib.

Researchers at Alfred Hospital and Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in Australia analysed multiple population-based studies to determine an association between caffeine intake and its effects on atrial and ventricular arrhythmias.

These studies have consistently shown a decrease in AFib with an increase in caffeine ingestion, with one meta-analysis of 228,465 participants showing AFib frequency decreasing by six per cent in regular coffee drinkers, and a further analysis of 115,993 patients showing a 13 per cent risk reduction.

"There is a public perception, often based on anecdotal experience, that caffeine is a common acute trigger for heart rhythm problems," said Peter Kistler, director of electrophysiology at Alfred Hospital.

"Our extensive review of the medical literature suggests this is not the case," said Kistler.

Researchers also determined that caffeine has no effect on ventricular arrhythmias (VAs). Caffeine doses up to 500 milligrammes daily (equivalent to six cups of coffee) did not increase the severity or rate of VAs.

A randomised study of 103 post-heart attack patients who received an average of 353 mg/day resulted in improved heart rate and no significant arrhythmias.

Only two studies showed an increased risk for VAs, where patients ingested at least 10 cups and nine cups/day, respectively.

"Caffeinated beverages such as coffee and tea may have long term anti-arrhythmic properties mediated by antioxidant effects and antagonism of adenosine," Kistler said.

"In numerous population-based studies, patients who regularly consume coffee and tea at moderate levels have a lower lifetime risk of developing heart rhythm problems and possibly improved survival," he said.

Weight loss fail: Before spending hours in the gym, fix this problem first

Your weight loss goals are not easy to achieve. If you feel that despite sweating it out in the gym, you’re unable to see the results on the scale, the answer could be in your metabolism. Ditch bad habits such as skipping meals or drinking less water. Here are some tips to reach your fitness goals.
The one thing that most fitness experts get asked on a regular basis: how to keep the metabolism high and running? And just like every other aspect of fitness, there’s no one answer. You may have set high weight loss goals, but there are many factors, other than your hard work in the gym, that have a direct impact on the result.

One mistake many fitness enthusiasts make is of counting calories and skipping meals when they think they’ve already exceeded their daily average. If you are doing this, we suggest, stop right away. This habit is undoing all the hard work you’ve put into your workout and healthy eating.

Simply put, metabolism is the chemical process that keeps fuelling your body. Every person functions on different speeds of metabolism. Those with slow metabolism have more fuel (calories) that gets stored as fats. And those with a faster metabolism tend to burn more calories.

The Instagram diet: Is eating for ‘likes’ and ‘comments’ healthy?
Does that mean if you belong to the former, you’re doomed? No. There are sure shot ways of boosting your metabolism. And one of the most important one is to ensure that you eat nutritious meals at regular intervals. “Eat small, but frequent meals instead of two big meals,” says Chennai-based nutritionist Preet Chhabria. Once you do this, you’ll not only feel like you are burning more calories, but you’ll also feel energetic through the day.

Apart from regular meals, you also need to ensure that you’re drinking at least 3-4 litres of water every day,” says Chhabria. According to a 2003 study published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, drinking 500 ml of water increased metabolic rate by 30% in healthy men and women.

Jio Home TV Service Will Offer HD Channels at Rs. 400 Per Month

Jio Home TV, if rumours are to be believed, is set to be the telecom giant's next big project that will reportedly offer a fresh change in the Indian Direct-to-Home (DTH) space. According to a report, Jio Home TV will offer SD (Standard Definition) channels for a monthly price of Rs. 200 and SD + HD (High Definition) channels for Rs. 400 per month. This is believed to be based on Enhanced Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (eMBMS) and is not the yet-to-be-launched Jio DTH service.

As per a report by TelecomTalk, the Mukesh Ambani-back company is planning to soon launch its new Jio Home TV service that is said to be a modified version of the Jio Broadcast app, which was recently being tested for streaming HD content on select devices. According to the report, the operator will roll out this feature for all its users, with a rebranded version called Jio Home TV. Do note, however, that this piece of news comes from an unconfirmed source and might not be completely accurate.

eMBMS is said to be a hybrid technology that combines the capabilities of TV channel and radio architecture to create a scalable solution for providing HD content in high volumes. Further, an active Internet connection will not be required for accessing this content as most of it will be placed in broadcast mode for offline access. An apparent confirmation from Jio comes through Reliance Industries' third quarter report that specified the testing of Jio's eMBMS testing pan-India.

Earlier this month, Reliance Jio had announced the deployment of Massive MIMO pre-5G/ 4G technology at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium and Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium to offer high speed Internet access and enhance user experience during IPL 2018. SOURCE

Scientists Have Accidentally Created a Mutant Enzyme That Eats Plastic Waste

They found the first ones in Japan. Hidden in the soil at a plastics recycling plant, researchers unearthed a microbe that had evolved to eat the soda bottles dominating its habitat, after you and I throw them away.

That discovery was announced in 2016, and scientists have now gone one better. While examining how the Japanese bug breaks down plastic, they accidentally created a mutant enzyme that outperforms the natural bacteria, and further tweaks could offer a vital solution to humanity's colossal plastics problem.

"Serendipity often plays a significant role in fundamental scientific research and our discovery here is no exception," says structural biologist John McGeehan from the University of Portsmouth in the UK.

"This unanticipated discovery suggests that there is room to further improve these enzymes, moving us closer to a recycling solution for the ever-growing mountain of discarded plastics."

McGeehan's team, including researchers at the US Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), stumbled onto their mutant tweak while investigating the crystal structure of PETase – the enzyme that helps the Japanese microbe, Ideonella sakaiensis, break down PET plastics (aka polyethylene terephthalate).

PET was patented back in the 1940s, and while that seems like a long time ago, in evolutionary terms it's pretty recent. The point being, while I. sakaiensis can indeed eat plastic, it's only lately had the opportunity to learn this trick, which means it doesn't munch real quick.

Facebook allows users to see all apps, websites they have logged in through their site

Facebook has told its users in India, its largest market in terms of users, that it has now made it easier for them to control with which apps they wish to share their information.

The platform allows its users to see all the apps and websites they have logged in using Facebook and offers the option to revoke permission if desired.

The move comes in the wake of the revelations that millions of users’ personal information was harvested by voter-profiling firm Cambridge Analytica without their explicit consent.

“Protecting your information, we understand the importance of keeping your data safe, and we are making it easier for you to control which apps you share information with. You can go to the Apps and websites section of your settings at any time to see the apps and websites you’ve logged in to using Facebook. You can also remove the ones you don’t want to have connected to Facebook any more,” Facebook said in a note to its users on Monday.

MDR-TB weighs on the minds of patients

Karnataka wants to integrate mental health care with the treatment process for tuberculosis

In India, managing the stigma of a disease often becomes more important than the actual treatment of it. And that, coupled with drug-related side effects may trigger mental health issues. Take something like tuberculosis (TB). In 2017, there were 80,000 new cases of TB in Karnataka. A diagnosis of TB spells isolation for the patients in many places still. Most people do not care that although it is contagious, it is not easy to catch TB. And if it is a drug-resistant strain, particularly, multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) then there’s stigma, isolation, lack of information, and a longer medical regimen to handle.

The accepted regimen for the treatment of TB lasts for six months. But patients with MDR-TB are put on category IV drugs for two years. This includes six drugs with injections for six months and four oral pills daily for the next 18 months. The side effects of these drugs trigger nausea, vomiting and in extreme cases, suicidal tendencies. Experts in the health department point out that many male MDR-TB patients under treatment have to deal with alcohol and nicotine withdrawal symptoms too. When the usual stigma about tuberculosis adds to this, and that too for two years at least, one can imagine the state of mind the patient is reduced to.

In 2017, 18,495 people were found to suffer from drug-resistant TB in Karnataka. Of them, 1,182 had MDR-TB. “We noticed increased numbers of MDR-TB patients coming to our counselling centres with issues related to mental health. Patients with MDR TB have to undergo a rigorous treatment schedule, which is quite cumbersome and at times, the drugs also have side effects giving rise to mental health problems in such patients,” explained Dr Rajani D, from the state mental health department. The department is considering integrating mental health care with TB treatment process.

Fall in food prices eases WPI inflation, slips marginally to 2.47% in March

Reflecting farmers’ woes, at least in some commodities such as tomatoes, wholesale price food items saw deflation in March. This has pulled down the overall inflation rate marginally to 2.47 per cent in March, from 2.48 per cent in February, even as oil inflation more or less neutralised the impact of food inflation.

Food deflation stood at 0.29 per cent in March, compared to inflation of 0.88 per cent in February. Within food, vegetables saw deflation at 2.70 per cent, against 5.26 per cent inflation.

Among vegetables, tomatoes saw a price fall of 26.48 per cent in terms of the wholesale price index (WPI). The index stood at 92.7 points in March, which meant prices of tomatoes, on an average, were less than those in 2011-12.

There were reports of aggrieved farmers dumping tomatoes from various parts of the country.

WPI is the best way to judge prices offered to farmers, given the statistical limitations.

Sunil Kumar Sinha, director, India Ratings and Research, said earlier it was the potato and now the tomato is adding distress to farmers.

Pulses have been witnessing deflation for months now. The rate of deflation, though, came down to 20.58 per cent in March, from 24.51 per cent in the previous month.

Sinha said prices of many pulses are ruling below the minimum support price in some parts, including Madhya Pradesh.

However, food inflation was offset by fuel prices, even as liquefied petroleum gas entered the deflationary zone. Fuel and power inflation rose to 4.70 per cent in March, against 3.81 per cent in the previous month.

Fall in food prices eases WPI inflation, slips marginally to 2.47% in March

Sinha said with Brent crude oil prices going past $70 per barrel and the onset of summer likely to impact the prices of fruits and vegetables adversely, the inflation trajectory over the coming few months will be crucial for the Reserve Bank of India to decide its policy stance of whether to remain in an extended pause mode on rates or change it.
