Airtel Rs. 149 Recharge Refreshed Again, Now Offers 2GB Data per Day

Airtel is said to have refreshed its Rs. 149 prepaid pack to now offer double the data than its previous revision, in an attempt to take on Jio wreaking havoc in the Indian telecom industry. The Rs. 149 Airtel recharge now gives subscribers a daily limit of 2GB of 3G/ 4G data with a validity of 28 days. This takes the total amount of data offered to 56GB of data at a per GB cost of Rs. 2.68. Airtel also offers unlimited voice calling (local, STD, and roaming) and 100 SMS messages per day.

A report by Telecom Talk suggests that the Airtel pack is currently not available for all users in the telecom circles that the operator provides services in.

To recall, the Rs. 149 prepaid pack was last refreshed in May 2018 to offer 1GB of daily 3G/ 4G data access. All other benefits and durations continue to remain same. The pack is now more cost effective than Jio's, which wasn't the case a couple of months back.

In comparison, Jio's Rs. 149 pack offers slightly lesser benefits with a daily FUP (Fair Usage Policy) of 1.5GB 4G data and the same validity of 28 days. This takes the total data benefit to 42GB. Additionally, this pack also offers truly unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS messages per day. A complimentary subscription to Jio's suite of apps is also bundled with this prepaid pack.

Earlier this week, Airtel had revised yet another prepaid pack - the one priced at Rs. 399. This pack now offers 2.4GB (compared to 1.4GB previously) 3G/ 4G data per day, unlimited voice calling, and SMS benefits with a validity of 84 days. This pack, once again, betters similar offerings from Jio. Jio's Rs. 399 pack offers 1.5GB 4G data per day with the same validity of 84 days.

Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge Start Receiving Android 8.0 Oreo Update in India

Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have started receiving Android 8.0 Oreo in India, as per user reports. The new software update was initially rolled out in South Korea in early May and the limited rollout was resumed after a sudden suspension in the beginning due to some unexpected reboots. Alongside other features, it brings the April Android security patch. The update is also reportedly rolling out in the United Arab Emirates. Earlier this year, Samsung released Android 8.0 Oreo for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ to deliver the latest experience on its last year's flagship.

The Android Oreo update for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge is rolling out in India with April Android security and Samsung Experience 9.0, reports SamMobile. The update is said to be around 1.4GB in size. Also, it is reported to include most of the original Android Oreo features, including Smart Autofill and Picture-in-Picture mode among others.

In addition to the core changes, the Android Oreo update includes Samsung Knox 3.1 along with Knox API level 25 and TIMA 3.3.0. Some apps should be manually updated before beginning the update process. These include Samsung Internet, Memo, and Email. Furthermore, the arrival of Samsung Experience 9.0 brings a large number of new emojis.

Similar to other Android updates, the Android Oreo update for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge is rolling out in batches as an over-the-air (OTA) package. You can check its availability on your device by going to Settings  Software updates. It is recommended to back up your back before proceeding with the update. You are also recommended to use a high-speed data or Wi-Fi connectivity to download the update.

Last month, the Android Oreo update reached the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge in South Korea after an initial pause due to an issue that was causing random reboots. An official had explained that Samsung was halting the new software to investigate and resolve the issue.

BlackBerry KEY2 with 4.5-inch display and physical QWERTY keypad goes official

The Canadian handset maker, BlackBerry launched the successor to its iconic KEYone (review), dubbed KEY2, at an event in New York today. The smartphone, which has been subject to a number of leaks and speculations in the recent past, is now here for all to see. The BlackBerry KEY2 brings noticeable changes over its predecessor, including a design overhaul and dual camera module on the rear panel.

Coming to the spec sheet, the latest launch comes with a 4.5-inch IPS LCD display with 3:2 aspect ratio and 1,620 x 1,080 pixels resolution. The display is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Moving on to the performance, the BlackBerry KEY2 gets a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 660 processor backed by Adreno 512 GPU. BlackBerry is offering the KEY2 in two configurations – 6GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB, with support for microSD cards up to 256GB.

The physical QWERTY keyboard of the BlackBerry KEY2 is touch-enabled to serve as a trackpad and gets a fingerprint scanner embedded in the space bar for security. The company has added a new “Speed” key to the keyboard, which allows a shortcut access to a number of apps and features of the handset. “Just press Speed Key along with any of your customizable 52 shortcuts to instantly access your frequently used apps, call a favourite contact, or access other immediate functions; saving valuable little moments throughout the day”, added the brand.

As for the optics, the BlackBerry KEY2 comes with a dual camera module on the rear panel comprising a pair of 12MP shooters accompanied by a dual tone LED flash. As for selfies and video calling, the smartphone gets an 8MP shooter on the front with display flash. The smartphone boots Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with BlackBerry Launcher running on top and proprietary apps like BlackBerry Hub and more. There is a 3,500mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0 under the hood. As for connectivity options, the handset offers 4G LTE, dual-SIM slots, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and USB Type-C port.

Xiaomi Mi Credit Financial Service in India Delivers Instant Loans to Young Professionals

Xiaomi today announced the launch of its financial lending service Mi Credit in India. Mi Credit acts as a platform for users to initiate financial lending. Financial loan providers are listed on Mi Credit, and Xiaomi users can log onto the platform to apply for quick loans. Xiaomi announced this platform in partnership with KreditBee, which is an instant personal loan platform for young professionals. At the moment, Mi Credit is made available only for MIUI users, where KreditBee will be offering loans from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,00,000. That said, the loan can be initiated in less than ten minutes with a simple KYC verification. This is an interesting move from Xiaomi in India, and it’s an MIUI service too.

KreditBee aims to become the first choice for young professionals when it comes to quick and convenient personal loans, read a press statement from Xiaomi India. Do make a note that all verification and user information input is done on partner platforms, with Mi Credit currently only listing all agents.

Xiaomi is bringing all its services to the Indian market lately with the Mi Credit being the third one in this month itself. Earlier this month, at its Mi Pop event in Mumbai, Xiaomi announced Mi Music and Mi Video with online streaming support for the Indian users. Xiaomi is now gearing up for its June 7 launch, where it’s expected to unveil the Redmi Y2 with 16MP selfie camera and Snapdragon 625 processor.

Nubia’s Red Magic smartphone is designed for gaming, down to the glowing LEDs on the back

The Red Magic is the new phone from Nubia (a ZTE sub-brand in China), and it’s built for gaming. But you probably didn’t need me to tell you that. The Red Magic is practically screaming “extreme gamer,” with its sharp, hexagonal cutouts for the camera and fingerprint sensor, aggressively red vents and details, and the glowing LED strip on the back, via Liliputing.

Oddly, the specs on the Red Magic aren’t actually quite in line with what you’d expect from a mobile gaming powerhouse. The 6-inch, 2160 x 1080 pixel display is up there, but it’s not a 120Hz panel like Razer offers, and it uses last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor instead of the newer Snapdragon 845.

The rest of the phone is pretty standard for a mid- to high-end Android phone, too: up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB storage on the high-end model (along with a cheaper 6GB RAM and 64GB of storage model). Camera-wise, there’s a 24-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing lens. And rounding things out on the hardware side of things is an impressively large 3,800mAh battery, which should help with power-hungry games. Nubia also claims that it’ll be using its “GameBoost” software to offer better performance. (This is probably where the gaming focus comes in.)

Between last year’s Razer Phone, the Xiaomi-backed Black Shark, and now the Nubia Red Magic, it’s safe to say that gaming phones are having a moment. And while a smartphone dedicated to gaming might not make a ton of sense to American users — after all, how much processing power do you need to play Candy Crush or Clash of Clans? — the Nubia Red Magic is meant more for markets like China. The Chinese market is where mobile MOBAs are extremely popular, and having a phone that focuses on gaming makes a lot of sense in that context. And even outside of China, the successful mobile ports of games like PUBG and Fortnite is starting to change the conversation about what phone games can accomplish.

Preorders open in China on April 25th, starting at 2,499 yuan (roughly $397) for the base mode, and 2,999 yuan (around $477) for the high-end version. Nubia is also planning an Indiegogo campaign for the 26th, which will offer the phone starting at an early bird price of $399.

Huawei P20 Pro, P20 Lite India launch on April 24

Huawei is getting ready to launch its P20 series in India on April 24. Huawei P20, P20 Pro were revealed by the company in Paris in March, and the Pro variant is the first device to come with a triple camera on the back of a phone. Huawei has already sent out invites for the P20 Pro launch in India with the words “See Mooore,” indicating the Pro variant is definitely coming to the market.

Additionally the P20 Lite is also expected to launch in India. The Huawei P20 is unlikely to launch on April 24.  The P20 Pro was already listed on Huawei’s India website.  Here’s a look at the key features of the Huawei P20 Pro and P20 Lite.

Huawei P20 Pro is the flagship phone, design to compete with Galaxy S9 and the Apple iPhone X and Google Pixel 2 XL. The focus on the P20 Pro is with the camera, which has three sensors at the back. Like the Apple iPhone X, Huawei P20 Pro has a notch on the front display.  The phone comes with a 6.1-inch Full Vision OLED display with ultra thin bezels and resolution of 2,240 x 1,080 pixels. Colour options of the Huawei P20 Pro are black, midnight blue, pink gold and twilight. However, Huawei has managed to add a button on the front of the device, which has the fingerprint scanner embedded inside.

The P20 Pro runs the Kirin 970 octa-core processor coupled with with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The phone is already on EMUI 8.1 based on Android 8.1. Battery on the P20 Pro is 4000 mAh with wireless charging support.

Coming to the camera, this is the USP of the phone. Huawei P20 Pro’s camera comes with a Leica-branded triple lens system. The camera on the back includes a 40MP RGB sensor, a 20MP monochrome sensor and an 8MP sensor with telephoto lens. The Leica branded telephoto lens supports 3X optical zoom and the camera also has support for 5X Hybrid zoom.
