Janhvi Kapoor makes her debut on Vogue India cover; discusses upcoming films, Sridevi and paparazzi culture

Although Janhvi Kapoor is yet to make her Bollywood debut, she is already getting into the groove of celebrity life.

Dressed in Louis Vuitton, she recently posed for Vogue India's June 2018 issue, making her magazine cover debut. Apart from that, in an interview with Karan Johar, she opens up on getting into films, life after the sudden demise of her mother, screen legend Sridevi and being paparazzi's current favourite.

Karan Johar is the producer of Jahnvi's debut film Dhadak and also her mentor. Jahnvi reveals that Sridevi never comfortable with the idea of her getting into films. "She thought I was naïve, that I wasn’t thick-skinned enough. She wanted us to live a more relaxed life," Jahnvi adds. Although Sridevi was an iconic actress, she felt that Khushi (Janhvi's younger sister) would be better at handling the problems that come with being in the film industry.

After the sudden passing of Sridevi earlier this year, there has been intense media scrutiny on Jahnvi and the Kapoor family in general. She says that although it's a loss that none of them will get over completely, it has still brought them closer as a family.

Although Jahnvi is followed around everywhere by the paps, she thinks she has not done anything to earn the attention that she has been getting. She admits that she isn't very good with reacting to the photographers and is caught off-guard most of the time.


Before she passed away suddenly, Sridevi saw the first 25 minutes of Janhvi's debut film. However, according to Jahnvi, her feedback was very "technical" and she gave her some tips to do the second half of the film differently. Jahnvi says that although Sridevi is not wit her anymore, she still wants to make her parents proud by excelling at acting and that is her only motivation.

The photo shared by Gauri is a close-up shot of Suhana, who looks nothing short of fabulous in a cream ensemble and red lips. Suhana is Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan's middle child - the youngest one AbRam will turn five just a few days after Suhana's birthday while Aryan Khan will celebrate his 21st birthday in November.

No other details of Suhana's birthday bash are available yet but one thing is for sure that it's going to be a blockbuster affair, because Karan Johar.

Suhana, who wants to be an actress, will require finishing her studies first, as mentioned by her superstar father Shah Rukh Khan. Shah Rukh, who has quite a bit of a reputation for being a protective father, has also laid down ground rules for anyone hoping to date Suhana, which includes clauses like "Understand I don't like you" and "I'm everywhere."

Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar, who is awaiting the release of Lust Stories, says lust has been depicted both poorly and beautifully in the films.

After 2013 film Bombay Talkies on 100 years of Indian cinema, Lust Stories brings together four filmmakers -Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar and Dibakar Banerjee who are making an anthology film for Netflix on themes of love and lust.

“One of the main reasons why our audience goes to cinema houses is escapism, fantasy, aspiration and to hope for something they don’t have. Love is still a taboo in our culture sadly. We don’t have that many love marriages happening, your parents decide who you spend your life with. We are not allowed to date. In terms of lust, some people have depicted beautifully and some people are just crass. It has been in our films. People are now being more open,” said Zoya.

Sharing similar views, Karan Johar believes that lust has been misused. “One has not shown lust sensitively. Both love and lust and co exist. But many times it has had bad influence on society. And we are responsible bunch of filmmakers. We have used it in right way. Lust cannot always be gauged by negativity, it is a bona-fide emotion.”

Karan says his film is about seeking pleasure and it is also about the right of women for pleasure. Dibakar’s film is about infidelity. The film features Radhika Apte, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Sanjay Kapoor and Kiara Advani.

“When Zoya called me I was jumping from the bed as she has been on my wish list for the longest time. I am always looking for newer characters newer stories, newer emotions to feel, newer boundaries to break and this story did it all. This story talks about so many biases in society that we don’t even know if they exists we just look through them,” Bhumi said.

Sanjay said he is happy and honoured to be part of the film that is directed by Dibakar. “When I got a call from Dibakar I felt like I have become a complete actor as in the past I have been part of commercial films and this is different kind of a film. This is a big platform as the film is releasing in 190 countries. It is a big honour for me,” he said.
