Aishwarya Rai Bachchan gets to play the star that she is in new Fanney Khan song, Mohabbat. Playing quaintly named Baby Singh in the film, she plays a rock star who is on a national tour. Oozing sensuality as she addresses the audience -- some of the audience may be reminded of her character in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil -- Aishwarya makes quite an entry on the stage and moves on to her stylish performance. While it is a completely new song, the hookline has been picked up from Noor Jehan’s song Jawaan Hai Mohabbat from the movie Anmol Ghadi. The 1946 song was composed by Naushad.
Much has been said about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan working with star choreographer Frank Gatson Jr for two songs in her upcoming film Fanney Khan and this is the first. Gatson has worked with pop stars Beyonce, Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez, among others, in the past.
Titled Mohabbat, the song introduces Aishwarya as rock star Baby Singh. Irshad Kamil has penned the song for the Fanney Khan number while Sunidhi Chauhan has lent her voice. Talking about Aishwarya’s introduction to the film, director Atul Manjrekar told DNA, “Aishwarya plays a diva, a singing star. She’s the number one singer and the most beautiful woman in the country. The song sees her character touring across India and performing in front of a live audience. For the sequence, we referenced recent concerts that featured Arijit Singh, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay. That was the starting point.”
Rumoured to be a remake of Everybody’s Famous, the film is slated to hit theatres on August 3. The Dutch movie starred Josse De Pauw, Eva Van Der Gucht and Thekla Reuten and was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in 2001.
A musical comedy, Fanney Khan has Anil Kapoor as a father who wishes to fulfil the dream of his daughter who wants to become a famous singer. It is after 17 years that Anil and Aishwarya are coming together for a film.
